There are changes to Long Service Leave entitlements in Victoria effective from 1 November 2018. These changes provide greater flexibility in the use of this leave, including:

  • employees are entitled to long service leave after 7 years of continuous employment rather than 10 years;
  • the entitlement will remain 1/60th of the continuous service period;
  • most absences from work, including unpaid parental leave up to 52 weeks, will count towards the continuous service period;
  • employees can now take long service leave in smaller increments, as small as one day at a time;
  • employees can request to take their long service leave at half pay; and
  • employers must keep appropriate records and be able to produce them as required.
